I have been in the tornado referred to as “Internet marketing” for the past six years. A conversation I get into all the time with customers is; what is more important; traffic, conversion of the traffic or managing the traffic you already have?
All are required but I tell most clients management of the traffic you already have is the first place to start.
Studies from Gartner Group show that more than 80% of the people who contact your company today will buy in the next 24 months. The question is will you be able to maintain an attention connection with them that long? For almost all the companies I meet with, the answer is doubtful.
Before you spend a great deal of money on SEO and PPC, first start with managing your current prospects and customers with a CRM system and preferably one with automated follow up sequences.
SEO is important to start right away but at the same time you better be implementing you funnel system so you can maintain an attention connection.
Proper landing pages that convert are also important, so the traffic you create does not just bounce away.
Here is the recommended pecking order:
- Funnel System with automated follow up sequences
- SEO- because the impact of SEO takes months
- Proper landing pages (content) that engage the customer to buy or drop into your funnel system
- Pay per click (PPC)
